How to Replace Swimming Pool Liners Successfully
Above ground swimming pools can provide hours of fun and enjoyment for your family. Most pools can be maintained with just a few hours of work each week. With the use of chemicals and automatic vacuuming machines you can enjoy your pool for many years. However, it is inevitable that at some point you will have to replace the swimming pool liners. This is just a fact of pool ownership that must be handled every few years. When your pool liner starts to wear thin or is starting to get week you have two choices. You can hire a professional contractor for the replacement or do the job yourself. When it comes to hiring a contractor the cost can be very high. Add together the cost of the liner and the labor and you may want to try your luck at installing the liner yourself. With a little preparation and understanding you should be able to complete the job very easily.
Getting Rid Of the Old Liner
One of the first steps in replacing swimming pool liners is removing the existing liner. However, before you can remove the existing liner you have to drain the pool. You will want to check with your local building code office to find out the rules of draining a pool. In some metropolitan areas you may need to rent a pump and drain the water to a nearby ditch. In addition you need to remove anything from the vicinity of the pool that could become damaged by water. Next you will need to remove the cap of top edge of the poll that holds the liner in place. Finally inspect the walls of your pool and complete any repairs or remove any rust that may be found.
Choosing New Swimming Pool Liners
You will need to measure the length, width, and depth of the pool in order to purchase the right size liner. Swimming pool liners come in a variety of styles and thicknesses. The style will be chosen based on your personal choice. However, the thickness of the liner should be considered a lot. A thicker liner will last longer, have a longer, warranty, and be more resistant to chemicals. On the other hand a thinner liner will be much cheaper to purchase. Consider how soon you want to change the liner again when making the decision on your pool liner thickness. In most cases it is recommended that you buy a liner that is at least 20 ml thick.
Installing the New Liner
The first step in installing a new swimming poll liner is spreading the liner across the bottom of the pool. Line the edges of the pool up with the frame. Once you have all the corners and edges lined up you will want to pull the sides of the pull up and over. Make sure the lines stay in place and leave only a small portion in the center of the pool touching the ground below. Start adding water and slowly lowering the liner as the area becomes full. This will naturally stretch the liner and remove any wrinkles or creases. Continue checking the edges throughout the process to insure that everything is lined up. Continue filling until your pool is once again ready for use.
