Why is Glengarnock a part of Beith?
And don’t give me all that ‘parish’ tosh, that’s an anachronism!
It’s a couple of miles out of Beith, (a nice enough little town, but the inhabitants think they’re better than the should be!), it’s actually joined to Kilbirnie, separated only by the width of the Garnock for a mile or so. It has a cycle shop, a shop/postoffice and a pub – oh! and a couple of wee Christian-sect meeting-halls. It used to have a proper Church, but that followed it’s one-man police station/house some years ago. It also used to have a huge and thriving steel-work, but the Tories sold that down the river in the eighties, and it’s since been ‘landscaped’ – providing no jobs, where 3000 used to work.
Also, how come The Longbar is in Glengarnock?
Separated from Glengarnock by a couple of fields, on the Glengarnock-Beith road, it isn’t allowed an identity of it’s own. Formerly it would have been classed as a hamlet, having no churches, or even shops, (it had a shop back in the 60′s, but that’s a house now).
